Type 410
The frontal treatment on the 410 was changed more dramatically than in the
previous two types by the simple expedient of incorporating the outer headlamps
into the bodyshell, partly recessing them.
- The secondary headlights are also partly recessed due to the front grille
raking forwards slightly more than the 409.
- Front side light and indicator lamp body protrudes from the body shell.
- The first ten or so cars had additionally fitted a chromed trim to the lower
edge of the radiator grille aperture, described as "a chrome smile".
- Side trims are jointed at front and rear whereas they were separated in the
previous models. In order to achieve this, the lower trim is extended to the
rear quarter panel.
- Pegasus emblem is retained bisecting the top of the two trim lines just
ahead of the doors, on the front wing flanks.
- A slim trafficator repeater light unit is mounted in line in front of the
lower trim line.
- The car is physically lower and also looks lower, partly due to the above
but mainly due to the adoption of 15 inch diameter wheels, allowing the use of
a more readily available range of wider tyres.
- Standard tyre fitted was the 6.70 x 15 Avon Turbospeed.
- Internally the most noticeable feature is the return of a gear shift lever
set centrally into the front floor pan. The rows of push buttons set into the
right hand side of the dash as on the 408 and
409 have disappeared.
- Standard engine fitted is the Chrysler 318 cu.in. or 5,211 c.c. V8 and
‘torqueflite’ automatic transmission which has a park lock facility.
Sub-contracted bodywork
The body panels for the production series manufactured on body bucks and
mated to the chassis outwith the factory, by Park Royal Vehicles Ltd at Acton.
410 Special or Non Standard Body
Chassis 7410 was modified ca. 72 to have
a 411 style rear smoother boot line with fins eliminated. It is stated that a
car has been decapitated to form a drophead. This car has not yet been
identified. At least one 410 has been seen fitted with 411 exterior chromium
body trims and eyeball air vents.
This earlier 410 bears the chromium smile about the lower portion of the
front grille,
and has the normal linked tramline trims along the sides.
Rear lights are still oval and the number plate is still flanked by
reversing lights, but this car has the later style of 411 trim, a single line.
